Levels of Hoarding

Clutter Hoarding

Level 1

 Clutter is not excessive, all doors and stairways are accessible, there are no odors, and the home is considered safe and sanitary. 

Level 2

Clutter inhabits 2 or more rooms, light odors, overflowing garbage cans, light mildew in kitchens and bathrooms, one exit is blocked, some pet dander or pet waste puddles, and limited evidence of housekeeping. 

Extreme Filth Hoarding

Level 3

One bedroom or bathroom is unusable, Excessive dust, heavily soiled food preparation areas, strong odors throughout the home, excessive amount of pets, and visible clutter outdoors. 

Level 4

 Sewer backup, hazardous electrical wiring, flea infestation, rotting food on counters, lice on bedding, and pet damage to home. 

Level 5

Rodent infestation, kitchen and bathroom unusable due to clutter, human and animal feces, and disconnected electrical and/or water service.

What is Hoarding?

Hoarding disorder is a persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions because of a perceived need to save them. A person with hoarding disorder experiences distress at the thought of getting rid of the items. Excessive accumulation of items, regardless of actual value, occurs. According to the Washington Post, “Studies show that compulsive hoarding affects up to 6 percent of the population, or 19 million Americans, and it has been found to run in families.”

What is Gross Filth Cleaning?

In some cases, once all the clutter is removed from the house, there is underlying gross filth inside the house itself. This can be pet damage, water damage, or even mold. If this is the case Washington Bio Services Inc. will communicate to you, our customer any issues we found and the best course of action. Washington Bio Services will then provide a second estimate including a scope of work, man hours estimated to complete the job, materials that will be used, dump fees, travel expenses and a total estimated price for work to be completed.
